When we met Cameron {cleveland newborn photographer}

They say there are very few mysteries in life. Kristen and Chris decided that learning the sex of their baby would be a mystery they hung on to ❤  When their precious little one was born in early May, they found out together, that it was a little boy.
I packed up and headed to their home in the Cleveland suburbs to photograph their new little family.  I love doing in-home sessions. They are my #1 favorite session to shoot.

If you’re pregnant and expecting in September 2018 or later (yes, 2019 dates included!) please email me today to book your in-home newborn session.  Let’s get your due date on my calendar! wendy@wboycephotos.com

Someday, I’ll find time and blog about Kristen, Chris, and their precious boy Cameron (the images are amaaaaaazzzinng if I do say so myself) but that day is not today. Tomorrow isn’t looking great either, hashtag: summer with kids.

Shillero, party of four {cleveland newborn photographer}

When Emily contacted me, she said she really wanted to shoot a lifestyle session, including their newborn but they didn’t really want a “newborn session”. We talked about what that would mean, and decided to go for an in-home lifestyle family session. I don’t often times get asked to shoot lifestyle and that’s totally fine, but ::wow:: insert al the heart eyes. A lifestyle session is different from a “traditional” family session in that there is nearly no direction, and very little posing. It’s just your family, hanging out, reading together, snuggling. I simply asked for everyone to pile on to the couch and really Big Brother Leo lead the charge. We didn’t ask him to sit-smile-stay. Instead we allowed him to snuggle when he felt like it, play with his cars, or tear through the house having a race with his daddy.

I am immensely proud of these photos, and they tell the story of this fun loving, gorgeous family on their own, so I’ll let them do the rest of the speaking…

Well the weather outside is weather… {cleveland family photographer}

If you’ve lived in Cleveland or the surrounding areas for any period of time (or you’ve even visited for one single afternoon) you may have noticed the weather here is… temperamental. At best. Sometimes, Mother Nature can be a downright B-word. This winter and then Spr-inter have been really, really crappy.
I *hate* being forced to reschedule sessions in the event of rain. It’s annoying for my clients and honestly, it’s not great for me either since it means re-working my entire week’s schedule (edit days, writing days, gallery creation and delivery, etc). Rescheduling requires massive flexibility and understanding from everyone involved in the session, which bring me back to Mother Nature.

Oh, I’ve seen sun and I’ve seen rain… often at the same time, in my neighborhood :/

As we’ve witnessed this spring, there’s really no telling what the day will bring. I hate dumping a reschedule onto a client with short notice, but it’s better to get your session in ASAP (in my eyes at least) than to have to put it off.  Please understand, I WANT to get your shoot in, as soon as we can and as close to your session date as possible.  I know you do, too. I really appreciate it when you as a client can offer days and times when you could be available for a reschedule. I always offer my first available, but I know that short notice can get you in a bind. The one benefit of these overcast days is that I can shoot at ANY time, on an overcast day. The light is nice and even and not harsh like it is on bright, sun shining days when we need to shoot early in the morning or late in the evening. If they’re calling for spotty showers however, I am all for trying to get our session in at its scheduled time and date. Just know if it is raining we will be forced to reschedule. I ask that you keep an eye on your email just incase.

My Shoot & Share contest video!

This year, the Shoot & Share administrators put together videos for all contestants who entered 20 or more images. I went all-in with 50! See anyone you know? I know it goes by fast; I didn’t get to build this video or personalize it at all (you have to shell out $$ to be able to customize your videos) but it’s still fun to see.

I have already started a collection of images to enter for next year’s contest. I cannot WAIT for things to start blooming again here in Cleveland; I am really looking forward to taking my #nikonf100 film camera out and really stretching it’s legs.
I am hoping to score a model or two as well, to work on a semi-styled film session (think warm sunlight, flowing floral dress,sun hat, tall grass, and that touch of film making it all look so timeless). I’m even toying with doing boudoir on film! (woowoo) If you are over 18 and would be interested drop a line to wendy@wboycephotos.com You will be required to sign a contract with a model release. Don’t worry, they don’t allow any boudoir photography in the contest and I never share images without specific permission so your privacy will be respected 😀

Your legacy in photos {cleveland photographer}

On Thursday, Feb 1, my Grandmother Martha Randall left this life for the great dance floor in the next. My husband, kids, and I drove home to PA on Friday and spent the weekend with my parents and the rest of my family. We did as so many others do when there is a loss; we sat around together, looking at Gramma’s photo albums. My Gram apparently had a camera with her at all times- something I didn’t know. Seeing the photos of us and her travels, the photos of her with my Great Grandma Ross who seems to have snuck into 3 out of every 5 photos ever taken, reading the captions she wrote in margins, in her own handwriting… that time capsule of Ross/McGaughey/Randall was such a wonderful piece of history. Someday, your photos will be your living legacy. They will be the last physical piece that you existed in this life. For the Great Grand kids who won’t have memory of Gram, they will be able to see her smiling while holding them- they’ll be able to know they were loved and have been loved for decades. They can see the roots of their family tree, in more than just the faces of the people around them.

Grandma and Jameson. Jameson is Gram’s seventh great-grandbaby

I am guilty of not printing as much as I should this myself, and realized it when I was scrolling through my Cloud storage looking for photos only to realize, it was too late- I had no way to print any of the digital files I had saved. I had photos of my Gram holding one of my daughters on the day my daughters were born- the three ladies share a birthday (Molly, Lilly, and my Gram that is), photos of Gram and Dave (my step grandfather who loved my Gram to the ends of this earth) at weddings, Gram with my Dad and my daughters just visiting and hanging out together. But I had no way to print those digitals. Nothing says “quality family time” like passing around your cell phone, and trying to teach others how to scroll through, right? 😦 Had I printed those pictures when I took them, I could have brought albums with me back to PA to share with everyone. Instead, I felt selfish and foolish for not having *anything* to contribute.
While going through Gram’s photos, I found these wedding photos from when she married my Grandpa. While their marriage was hard (they suffered losses no parent should every suffer, multiple times at that) and their lives grew apart, it was really a treat to see the beginnings of our family.
The wedding photos had yellowed considerably since they were shot in 1948. I asked if I could take two of the photos home, to try to restore them and I think I got it 🙂 If I recognize the scenery correctly, I believe these were shot at the house my Gram grew up in, on Clay Street in North East, PA. I feel like I can see some pink in the bouquets, but I think that was painted in, and the bridesmaids gowns look like they might have been blue, but again I’m not sure if that was painted onto the image afterword. Screen Shot 2018-02-06 at 8.32.24 AM

A couple from Cmas 2015, at Gram and Dave’s house that again, I’ll be printing for my daughters. Print your photos. Get IN photos. Don’t get deleted from your family history.

Caleb’s newborn session {cleveland newborn photographer}

Sweet Caleb Clay was in a hurry to meet his family! He is healthy and perfect, despite his slightly early start ❤ His early-ish birth also made scheduling his session a bit easier- we had to reschedule his session because NEO was nailed with a pretty nasty storm (though nothing like what my hometown outside of Erie, PA has been dealing with) but we had a bit of wiggle room and the day we shot, he was technically about 37 weeks gestation. Cool, right?

I traveled up to Janel and Greg’s home and we got to work. Caleb, like lots of babies was totally into checking out his surroundings. I can always work with awake babies 🙂 Eventually, after some snuggles and a little snack, Caleb settled in. We were able to use *so* many personal touches, it’s the biggest reason I love going to my client’s home for newborns. The green blanket and hat were made for him, the reindeer hat was a gift, and perhaps most special- the quilt he is snuggled with was made by his Great Grandmother Virginia.  blog-collage

Not only was this quilt made by his Great Grandmother, it was the FIRST quilt she had ever made, many years ago. I brought my own quilt to the session and when Janel saw it, she remarked that she was pretty sure she had a family quilt, somewhere in the house. She took a peek and brought back this beauty and told me the story of it’s maker. Had we not been shooting at home, we wouldn’t have been able to use this piece of family history! ccn-43wmccn-63wmccn-68wmCongratulations, Janel and Greg (and kitties Kevin and Louis). Caleb is absolutely darling ❤ ❤ I can’t wait to watch him grow with you!
