Newborn love {cleveland newborn photographer}

nbs-9Ah, new people.  Photographing newborns is my most favorite part of my job. I always travel to my client’s home, so everything is as easy as possible. No packing up, no worrying about diaper explosions, no worries about an uncooperative tiny human or sibling 😉 While I can bring some small studio props with me, I generally prefer to shoot your newest family member, at home- just being. I love getting to use personal pieces- in the above picture, Joey’s mommy (a very talented artist) painted the globe behind him, we shot in his room, with his yellow blanket!

When Cecelia was born, I was able to photograph her big brother snuggling with her by the window, a beautiful smile in her Daddy’s arms, and a precious little coo in her crib! These photos wouldn’t have the same sentimentality had I shot them in studio.

It’s so important to me, to be able to give my clients a glimpse of their tiny baby and his or her role in the family. The newborn phase goes by so quickly, and in such a haze. In the blur of sleep deprivation and hormonal changes, it’s easy to forget the tiny little wisp of hair he had, or the little dimple she had comfort sucking, or the way the puppies always wanted to be so close. To make sure you can get in, book your newborn session no later than your 30th week of pregnancy. (email wendy@wboycephotos.com for availability, currently I can take April, May, and June newborns)inhome-collageStudio photography is *beautiful* and someday, I hope to be able to add the option for studio photos, but for now I’ll happily come to you and photograph your tiny person right at home indoors, or if you have a summer baby outdoors! ❤

Caleb’s newborn session {cleveland newborn photographer}

Sweet Caleb Clay was in a hurry to meet his family! He is healthy and perfect, despite his slightly early start ❤ His early-ish birth also made scheduling his session a bit easier- we had to reschedule his session because NEO was nailed with a pretty nasty storm (though nothing like what my hometown outside of Erie, PA has been dealing with) but we had a bit of wiggle room and the day we shot, he was technically about 37 weeks gestation. Cool, right?

I traveled up to Janel and Greg’s home and we got to work. Caleb, like lots of babies was totally into checking out his surroundings. I can always work with awake babies 🙂 Eventually, after some snuggles and a little snack, Caleb settled in. We were able to use *so* many personal touches, it’s the biggest reason I love going to my client’s home for newborns. The green blanket and hat were made for him, the reindeer hat was a gift, and perhaps most special- the quilt he is snuggled with was made by his Great Grandmother Virginia.  blog-collage

Not only was this quilt made by his Great Grandmother, it was the FIRST quilt she had ever made, many years ago. I brought my own quilt to the session and when Janel saw it, she remarked that she was pretty sure she had a family quilt, somewhere in the house. She took a peek and brought back this beauty and told me the story of it’s maker. Had we not been shooting at home, we wouldn’t have been able to use this piece of family history! ccn-43wmccn-63wmccn-68wmCongratulations, Janel and Greg (and kitties Kevin and Louis). Caleb is absolutely darling ❤ ❤ I can’t wait to watch him grow with you!

When Elise was born {Cleveland Newborn Photographer}

This is the week of throw-backs! Today’s feature is baby Elise ❤ Elise was born in March, so I headed down to her family for her in-home newborn session. Shooting in my client’s home is always the easiest for them- no packing up anything, no worries if baby has a diaper explosion or a little reflux. We also get to relax, and spend time in a place where everyone is most comfortable.

and… I get to meet the family pets ❤ Olive and Henry made this shoot so special. Olive had to make sure the basket was safe for her new human!

All those small details… you forget sometimes how tiny their ear was, or how they puckered their little lips, the curve of a chubby cheek ❤ You forget how their skin was so new, and soft… You never forget the work it took to grow them, but sometimes you forget those itty bitty details.

I get to see Elise in just a few weeks for her six month milestone session and I cannot wait to see how much she’s changed! I’m booking November and early 2018 newborns and milestone sessions 😀 If you know someone expecting, send them my way; when they book their session you’ll both earn some fun freebies!

Moms in the Picture

It’s Mother’s Day this weekend here in the States, and this week I’ll be sharing some of my favorite #momsinthepicture over on my Facebook page. I was inspired to do so, with help from the good people at Pretty Presets who’ve written up some helpful blog posts to help you get in the picture.

You are worth so much more, than a shaky selfie shot. We get so caught up in how we look; is our “mom muffin” showing? Is our grey hair visible?  Can you see the bags under our eyes? These worries make us shy away from being in photos. What message are we giving our kids, when we dog on ourselves over how we look in photos?

Photos immortalize us. They are tangible evidence that WE LIVED. Exist in photos, make sure your children, your children’s children and so on know YOU LIVED.

Check out the helpful bog posts from Pretty Presets Blog HERE!  And while you’re at it, why not book a family session for yourself? I’ve got some gorgeous nights available in June AND July that would be perfect for families! Email me, wendy@wboycephotos.com for information or to book your session!

Mason {cleveland newborn} a TBT post

Oh, Mason

Detail collages get me in all the feels. I love seeing those newborn lips, and those mushy cheeks, and the little noses, and those itty bitty ear folds.

When I can, I like to create a little birth announcement for my newborn clients.  Even if you don’t purchase 150 and mail them, it’s always nice to have one for yourself. When my daughters were a few months old, maybe even a year old, I finally made a couple for myself and printed a 5×7 of each, then framed those 5x7s in an 8×10 matted frame. Just a suggestion… 😉

No one can resist a nibble on newborn toes. Maddie is no different. I love Mason’s face, looking up to Daddy like, “HAAAAALLLPPP!!!!” Seriously, it’s not like anyone could resist taking a smooch or maybe… nibble.

If you’re expecting in June or July of 2017, email me today wendy@wboycephotos.com to set up your newborn session!

Watch Me Grow sessions ARE HERE! {Cleveland Newborn Photographer}

Something I’ve been wanting to put together for some time now has come to fruition!

Watch Me Grow sessions! These bundled milestones are such a time saver.

New from wendy b photos! Watch Me Grow!

If you belong to any of the “mommy” Facebook groups, you’ve no doubt seen countless last minute cries of, “I need a photographer for my child’s 6 month photos ASAP!!” Sadly, most professional photographers don’t have immediate availability, myself included. It’s so hard to try and keep up with daily life when you have a new baby I don’t fault anyone for only realizing what milestone is just around the corner too late.

The beauty of this Watch Me Grow bundle is that all our sessions are scheduled when we schedule your newborn session! This new bundle of sessions makes it easier than ever to make sure you never miss a milestone. Booked all at once and paid for over the the life of the bundle there couldn’t be a more simple way to get all your sessions in without worrying about them last minute.

You’ll have your newborn photos, 4 month milestone, 8 month milestone, and 1 year cake smash all booked and on the calendar ready to go without a second thought.  I’m offering them at a discount when you purchase the Watch Me Grow Bundle. Four sessions, one disk for each session with the corresponding amount of digital files and print release… only $575.

As with everything in life, conditions apply so check out wboycephotos.com or email wendy@wboycephotos.com for details!

Session Q&A- when to book maternity or newborn photos

Q- I’m pregnant! When should I schedule my maternity and/or newborn session with wendy b photos?

A- This is a two-parter 🙂 Any session is booked by emailing me; wendy@wboycephotos.com. We will settle on a date and location, and I’ll send you a contract and invoice 🙂

You’ll want to schedule your maternity session ASAP keeping in mind that I book at least six weeks in advance. Maternity photos are best shot after week 32 but before week 38- you’ll be showing pretty well but not yet so huge that the “I’m so done” mantra has been chanted. You are welcome to book your maternity session as soon as you hit your second trimester, but know that we won’t be shooting until you hit 32w.

BabyKensill-67wm

Newborn photos *MUST* be shot within the first 14 days or so after birth. Since a good lot of us have no idea when our babies will be born, you will want to schedule your newborn session by the time you are 34w. I put you on my calendar for your due date, then I leave dates open the week before and two weeks after for your session. It is of the utmost importance that you let me know as soon as the baby is born, so we can nail down your exact session date. Doing so can help ensure that the whole family can be available to participate, if you’d like. On-site newborn photos often include siblings and both parents so keep that in mind 🙂

If your baby is born prematurely and requires NICU time, we would resume your full session when you’re all home together.

If you want book maternity photos as well as newborn photos, I offer a Baby Bundle package. The package saves you some money and gets you *14* photos included with your session fee. I strongly recommend the Baby Bundle package. You get more shoot time, more photos, more bang for your buck!

I also offer a Fresh 48 add on to any newborn session, for just $100. It includes 30 minutes of hospital shoot time and *all* the best images for direct download. Total number of images will vary.

**I have been recognized nationally by the photography group I Heart Faces and had my work used as inspirational photos in both the newborn and maternity galleries!**

My feelings about #3 …

So, over on Wendy B Photos I shared an article by the amazingly talented Amy Tripple Photography. It’s a list of things photographers want their beloved clients to understand. It’s one of the few times that I thought YES YES YES. I wish I knew how to say this! But then I don’t have to say it, because Amy did it so well. I wanted to talk about #3 on the list.

It hurts my feelings when you joke about my pricing.

  • When you imply that my prices are getting too high, it feels like you’re saying that my work isn’t worth what you’re paying. I’m quite sensitive about my pricing and it feels incredibly vulnerable to have to put a price on my passion and art. There are so many parts of running a business that I can’t expect you to know about: taxes, a studio, equipment, website fees, a salaried studio manager… these are just a few of the things I’m desperate to tell you about when you make a joke that “this hour had better be amazing because we sure are paying for it…” I can’t, of course, so I try to remember that you probably don’t understand all the costs involved in running a small business and continue on with your session.”

While the above doesn’t happen to me during sessions, it stings when someone inquires about a future shoot and straight away asks, “What do you charge?” or they make comments like “when is your next sale?”; it makes me think that the person doesn’t put any value into the work; they’re only looking for someone who is “cheap” even if that’s not the case at all. I know cost is one of the most important things that potential clients consider, but it should never be the #1 most important. How much do you value your photos? I’m neither the most expensive nor the cheapest person working the block so to speak and I do the best I can to work with families for whom budget is the #1 deal breaker. ** if you are worried that you cannot afford my pricing, TELL ME. If you book out far enough in advance, I can gladly take small payments over time so that you can be paid up in time for your session**

I do *everything* I can to provide professional, affordable portraits be they family, maternity, newborns, etc. I do NOT believe that professional and personal photography should be a luxury only the wealthy can afford. There are a lot of people who could never afford to spend $400, $500, $1000 on photos. Does that make them less deserving? I don’t think so.

Does that mean that other photographers need to lower their pricing? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Each one of us sets our pricing in line to where it should to be for our specific needs. None of us will have the same pricing structure, even if we’re located in the same zip code. What works for one of us will likely NOT work for another.

I am priced as low as I can be, while still being able to cover my costs of doing business and as any other small business owner can attest, it’s not cheap doing business. There are times when I need to increase my price, or my product pricing but I have done and will continue to do everything I can to make professional photos available to as many people as possible.

I can’t thank my clients enough for being understanding of the ways in which I operate my business ❤ ❤

Kamlyn’s Newborn session {Macedonia newborn photographer}

Wow. That’s what I kept saying to myself after I left Melanie and Frank’s home after little Kamlyn’s newborn session.

Wow.

I spent about two and a half hours there with them, and sweet lady K was awake *the entire time*. I’ve never, ever had that happen!  We tried a little soothing, topped off the tank, and Kamlyn was having none of it. Sister had a lot of new things to see! It was incredible. Melanie and Frank have a great big window and Kamlyn was *obsessed* with it. No matter where I put her, how we wrapped her- her eyes went straight for that gorgeous window light. It was a completely different kind of session for me, and I’m so happy with how her photos feel- warm, soft, alive.

Seriously, those eyes! I love love love when a baby is awake- a couple times it’s happened that the baby was awake for maybe 10 or 15 minutes of our session, but truly never have I had one awake and alert for well over two hours! Kamlyn was so full of expressions- and she was only 7 days old!

I know this is such a super over-share, but it cannot be helped. I mean. Honestly. Look at that face! KGK-88wm

At the very end, she cuddled into Momma and I got my favorite MommyBaby shot:

Thank you so much, Melanie and Frank for letting me take a peek into your lives with your sweet little girl. Thank you for bringing Kierstin and Kenadie over to the studio, thank you for being so great to work with.

And thank you, Molly K. for thinking of me when it came time for a shower gift. This newborn session was given as a gift via gift certificate ❤ If you’d like to purchase a gift certificate for someone, either in whole or in part, just send me an email: wendy@wboycephotos.com
