They say there are very few mysteries in life. Kristen and Chris decided that learning the sex of their baby would be a mystery they hung on to ❤ When their precious little one was born in early May, they found out together, that it was a little boy.
I packed up and headed to their home in the Cleveland suburbs to photograph their new little family. I love doing in-home sessions. They are my #1 favorite session to shoot.
If you’re pregnant and expecting in September 2018 or later (yes, 2019 dates included!) please email me today to book your in-home newborn session. Let’s get your due date on my calendar! firstname.lastname@example.org
“Hey, I just met you… and this is crazy. But I’m your baby, so call me maybe…”
This year, the Shoot & Share administrators put together videos for all contestants who entered 20 or more images. I went all-in with 50! See anyone you know? I know it goes by fast; I didn’t get to build this video or personalize it at all (you have to shell out $$ to be able to customize your videos) but it’s still fun to see.
I have already started a collection of images to enter for next year’s contest. I cannot WAIT for things to start blooming again here in Cleveland; I am really looking forward to taking my #nikonf100 film camera out and really stretching it’s legs.
I am hoping to score a model or two as well, to work on a semi-styled film session (think warm sunlight, flowing floral dress, sun hat, tall grass, and that touch of film making it all look so timeless). I’m even toying with doing boudoir on film! (woowoo) If you are over 18 and would be interested drop a line to email@example.com You will be required to sign a contract with a model release. Don’t worry, they don’t allow any boudoir photography in the contest and I never share images without specific permission so your privacy will be respected 😀
Sweet Caleb Clay was in a hurry to meet his family! He is healthy and perfect, despite his slightly early start ❤ His early-ish birth also made scheduling his session a bit easier- we had to reschedule his session because NEO was nailed with a pretty nasty storm (though nothing like what my hometown outside of Erie, PA has been dealing with) but we had a bit of wiggle room and the day we shot, he was technically about 37 weeks gestation. Cool, right?
I traveled up to Janel and Greg’s home and we got to work. Caleb, like lots of babies was totally into checking out his surroundings. I can always work with awake babies 🙂 Eventually, after some snuggles and a little snack, Caleb settled in. We were able to use *so* many personal touches, it’s the biggest reason I love going to my client’s home for newborns. The green blanket and hat were made for him, the reindeer hat was a gift, and perhaps most special- the quilt he is snuggled with was made by his Great Grandmother Virginia.
Not only was this quilt made by his Great Grandmother, it was the FIRST quilt she had ever made, many years ago. I brought my own quilt to the session and when Janel saw it, she remarked that she was pretty sure she had a family quilt, somewhere in the house. She took a peek and brought back this beauty and told me the story of it’s maker. Had we not been shooting at home, we wouldn’t have been able to use this piece of family history! Congratulations, Janel and Greg (and kitties Kevin and Louis). Caleb is absolutely darling ❤ ❤ I can’t wait to watch him grow with you!
Now booking MARCH and later newborn sessions! email firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule today 😀
On this freezing Thursday, I’m throwing it back to Mandi’s maternity session! We had a beautiful, chilly day. Big Brother Ben was *so* adorable, giving kisses and snuggles, and big smiles! It’s so awesome to be able to include the new “big” sibling in maternity sessions.
Isn’t she beautiful?
Perfection, they name is Charlie Belly. Sometimes, you need a little snack break. On Sunday, I get to meet little sister Charlotte Noel, who was born Dec 26th! Working with Mandi, Joey, and Ben is always so fun and relaxed. I always look forward to our time together.
I’m currently booking FEBRUARY and MARCH newborns! Refer a friend and get some fun extras for both of you 😉 Save over $100 when you book a Watch Me Grow session where you get newborns, 4m, 8, and a 12m cake smash all set up at once, but pay through out the year! All you need to do, is email me at email@example.com to get set up. We’ll discuss your due dates, and I’ll send out my contract and invoice. Easy peasy!
I’ve been photographing Madison “Mads” since she was about 8 months old. She was as full of spunk then, as she is now! And she is insanely beautiful. Child model material for sure. She is such a perfect mix of her gorgeous mom and her hilarious dad.
She’s pony obsessed like all four year old girls should be, and has been for at least a year. During her 3yr photo session, she brought one of her ponies with her, and she showed me her pony hooves. It was awesome.
She’s also into her pretties; her necklace, bracelet, and dainty painted nails…
She’s a big sister now, too! Mason had his newborn session back in December and soon, he’ll have his very own cake smash just like Mads had, three full years ago ❤
I’m currently booking November milestones and fall mini sessions and *2018* newborns! Line up your session spot, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
It’s Mother’s Day this weekend here in the States, and this week I’ll be sharing some of my favorite #momsinthepicture over on my Facebook page. I was inspired to do so, with help from the good people at Pretty Presets who’ve written up some helpful blog posts to help you get in the picture.
You are worth so much more, than a shaky selfie shot. We get so caught up in how we look; is our “mom muffin” showing? Is our grey hair visible? Can you see the bags under our eyes? These worries make us shy away from being in photos. What message are we giving our kids, when we dog on ourselves over how we look in photos?
Photos immortalize us. They are tangible evidence that WE LIVED. Exist in photos, make sure your children, your children’s children and so on know YOU LIVED.
Check out the helpful bog posts from Pretty Presets Blog HERE! And while you’re at it, why not book a family session for yourself? I’ve got some gorgeous nights available in June AND July that would be perfect for families! Email me, email@example.com for information or to book your session!
I have a week in June and a couple evenings in July that I would *love* to fill with some milestone sessions! If your little one is hitting a milestone, be it 6,8, or 12 months, two years, three or four years, email me! I have an aqua ruffle outfit that miss Top Right (Ellie) let me have that would be so adorable on a girl, 8-12m old 😉
I noticed that I had taken fewer shots of my own kids than “usual”. I was working a lot more, and blabla life stuff, but I love taking pictures of my girls. I looked through the pictures I had and realized—they’re all very “posed”. Not terribly much in the way of our daily life or lifestyle. I don’t think I took any pictures at Christmas. I didn’t take my camera to Thanksgiving, and I know it sat at my desk during their birthday (twins man, those birthdays get pretty busy). There are very few of the girls just playing together which is one of my favorite parts of our lives.
I tried to step out of my own box and look at what was holding me back and it hit me when I shared a picture of my cat to FB (on my dinner table being a bad kitty, because of course there was a cat on my dinner table).
My house is a mess. My family room has piles of toys everywhere, legos spread across all surfaces, Barbie clothes everywhere. My kitchen has cups on the counter, and last night’s supper pans in the sink. There are books on the dinner table, and like I said, the cat.
If you follow any lifestyle photographers, you see these gorgeous homes- perfectly cleaned, gorgeous light in every room, nary a dust ball on the floor. And forget a-hole pets on their dinner table.
I thought something else—screw it. We live here. Having a spotless home is not a priority for me. We pick up, but you’ll probably never see our whole counter top. There will always be cat/dog fluff swirling their ballets across the floor. My throw pillows will never be artfully arranged. This is what our lives are- they’re messy and chaotic. And I’m going to be more mindful about shooting us just the way we are. Slovenly pig sty and all 😉
Take the picture. Don’t worry about the mess. Sometimes, life is messy.
If that isn’t a catchy title, I don’t know what is.
It has been an absolute whirlwind fall. Every year I tell myself I’m not going to take on so much- I’ll spend more time with my family. I’ll actually hire someone else to take photos of us because I won’t be working every minute!
And then this year I took something like 12 more fall sessions than I did last year :*) I took 4-5 mini sessions every weekend and then also took my usual work load during the week. It was nuts and I’m pretty sure my eyes are going to fall out of my face. I’m taking only 2 sessions in December, not just to give my retinas a rest, but also because with the holiday season comes winter break for my daughters and you guys know I’m a mom first.
I wanted to share some of the families I had this year, and since my blogging is pretty much the worst ever, I’m going to pop them into a couple giant posts! We’ve had our first snow here, and looking back at the colors of fall is so nice 😀
